Meet our Team
Have you ever wondered who is behind the amazing work that we do? Well, the truth is . . . A LOT of people. The work that we do today would not be possible without our extensive roster of incredible volunteers and paid staff members. We are so thankful for all the busy bodies that volunteer/work towards our mission. Poverty should not be fought alone. We are in this together as we work towards more long-term solutions and supports to assist our community and partners. Every day is a good day to make a change!
Below you can read about some of our extraordinary team members!
Meet Nancy!
Nancy Wright-Laking has been with CFN since 2018. She is the current Chair on the Board of Directors for CFN and sits on the Communications and Fund Development Committee.
Favourite part about volunteering with CFN: The wonderful people who give so much of their time to fight food insecurity and heat insecurity. I would like to see a time where no one has issues with getting enough food or enough warmth for their home. I also hope for a time where everyone is able to make a liveable wage while living in a place of safety. Favourite food: ham and scalloped potatoes . . . yummy! |
Meet Joan!
Joan Barton has been with CFN since 2015 (or around then). She has helped out with Community Cooks, including the Grade 8 cooking programme. Joan was also a past board member for CFN. Currently, she is part of the Fund Development and Human Resource Committee.
Favourite part about volunteering with CFN: The camaraderie among the members and volunteers. Favourite food: coffee, coffee, coffee!! |
Meet Cam!
Cam McKenzie joined us in 2015 when Cardiff Food Bank reorganized and moved into the back of the Post Office in Cardiff (beforehand the Catholic Church basement facility was used). Cam currently volunteers as the Cardiff Food Bank Manager as well as "Chief Shopper" for the location!
Favourite part about volunteering with CFN: Getting to meet (and help) people that I would probably not have met. Favourite food: pasta! |
Meet Ken!
Ken Mott is one of the founding members of Central Food Network. He is also the original and current food bank manager for the Food Hub/Wilberforce Food Bank.
Favourite part about volunteering with CFN: Watching all the happy faces when we get done chatting and giving them food. Favourite food: pizza! |
Meet Rachel!
Rachel Gillooly was hired in the spring of 2021 to fill the newly created position of Client Services & Volunteer Coordinator. She loves the level of multi-tasking required for the position.
Favourite part about working for CFN: I'm very committed to issues of social justice, accessibility and equity, so working with CFN allows me to do way more than supporting the efforts of providing food for those in need; it allows me to proactively support our community members, while at the same time working towards pushing for systemic changes to a system that is not equitable nor accessible. Bonus? The Team is awesome! Favourite food: I'm sort of embarrassed to say that would be cheese fondue. I manage to contain myself, and treat myself once a year. Mmmm delicious! |
Meet Tina!
Tina Jackson has been a part of Central Food Network since it adopted the Heat Bank Haliburton County program back in 2016. She started as the co-founder and Coordinator of the Heat Bank program before becoming the current Executive Director of CFN.
Favourite part about working for CFN: Working with incredible people to make our community an even more caring and close-knit place. Favourite food: That's a definite toss-up between ice cream and broccoli...but most certainly not together! |
