Welcome!
Oh, hey there! Glad you visited this page. Getting help from a community agency can be daunting, overwhelming, exciting, emotional, or a whole slew of other emotions. We want to help mitigate those feelings by sharing information about us before you come, so you know what to expect.
What can I expect when I arrive?
Before arriving at either our Wilberforce or Cardiff Food Bank locations, we recommend that you get in touch with us by phone or email to set up an intake appointment. This will help ensure that someone is there to help you when you arrive and that you can receive your food efficiently. Once you become a member, however, you can just pop by during our operating hours to pick up food.
On a normal basis (pre-covid times), you'd probably be greeted by a big smiley, friendly face. Now we will be wearing a mask when we see you, just know that there's a smile underneath!
We will ask you for your first and last name. After a bit of time, we will probably recognize you!
At the Wilberforce location, please knock on the single green door with the "Knock Here" sign to let us know you are there. A volunteer will open the door to ask your name and if you have any special food needs. Once the volunteer has put together your hamper, they will push it out on a trolley. If you need help with loading the boxes into your vehicle, please let the volunteer know.
At the Cardiff location, please knock on the door to let us know you are there. You will then be given a sanitized clipboard and pen. Here, you will be asked to check off what you need from a set list of products. Once you have checked off what you need, the volunteer will gather what's on your list and place your items in a bag. If you have a vehicle, we will probably place your items in the boot/trunk and ask you to remain in the driver seat to ensure social distancing is respected. If you don't have a vehicle, that's okay: there's always another way to do something!

What questions can I expect during the Intake appointment for heat bank and the Food bank?
Our intake appointments help to give us a perspective into your current situation. We will ask basic questions such as who is in your household, where you live, what your housing situation is like, and what income you have. This will help us determine what services and supports you might need. Rest assured that the information you share is kept confidential.
IS there a difference between the Wilberforce and Cardiff Locations?
There is not much of difference between the Wilberforce and Cardiff locations. Although the Cardiff location is smaller, it still offers many of the same products as the Wilberforce location, including fresh and frozen foods. Of course, the volunteers staffing each location are different. In any case, we are here for you no matter which location you visit!
Do you share my information with anyone?
Absolutely not, not without your permission! At Central Food Network, we protect your confidentiality. Information that needs to be saved is securely filed and only accessed when necessary by authorized people. We understand how unsettling and serious a breach of privacy can be. As a result, you can be assured that we take every precaution to protect your privacy.
Do I have to live in a certain AREA to be served?
Our food banks aim to serve residents of Tory Hill, Wilberforce, Harcourt, Gooderham, Highland Grove, and Cardiff (the Highlands East Region).
Our Heat Bank program is available for residents throughout Haliburton County.
Please contact us if you have any questions about whether you are in our service area or if you need a referral to a food bank or utility support service closer to you.

How much food do I get? How often can I get food?
Our food hampers contain at least 3 to 4 days' worth of food for each person in your household. Products might include, but are not limited to: flour, pasta, canned sauce, canned beans, crackers, canned fruits and vegetables, etc. We also include milk, eggs and frozen protein products.
As for how often you can access our food banks, some people come monthly, while others visit us a handful of times a year. Sometimes, people need to pop in more frequently.
Surplus Food Program
Occasionally, we get large amounts of fresh items like veggies, fruits and breads that need to be distributed quickly. When we do get these flats of food, we post on Facebook and send out an email alert. These shipments are open to non-registered & members alike: anyone from the community that needs a little hand with food is welcome to come! All we ask is that you bring your own boxes and bags to collect the food!

Holiday Hampers
Through the generous donations of our various partners, sponsors and community members, we are able to provide Holiday Hampers in December. These hampers are distributed in mid-December and offer the ingredients needed to make your own cozy holiday meal. Information on these hampers usually comes out in late November.
