Below we answer the most frequently asked questions by individuals who are interested in volunteering with us! If you have more question, don't hesitate to contact us!

How does CFN define a volunteer?

A volunteer with CFN is anybody who offers up their time to help our organization.

How much commitment is involved? How many hours do I have to put in?

Commitment to the organization is dependent on how much time you would like to offer. We have volunteers who volunteer multiple times in a week and others who graciously helps us out during occasional special events. That being said, there is not a specific number of hours that we expect you to put in.

How do I stay updated and hear about more opportunities within the CFN organization?

To stay up to date and to hear more opportunities within CFN make sure to follow our Facebook page and to check our website regularly. You will find all the latest information here. As well, we sometimes put volunteer recruitment posts in local newspapers and at local stores like Agnew's, Foodland (Wilberforce) & the Cardiff Country Store.

What volunteer roles are available?

There are various roles that volunteers play in our organization! Some roles are perfect for thinkers & planners such as serving on the board or committees or planning a special event while people-persons may enjoy volunteering at our food banks, events or joining the Community Cooks group. Doers might like becoming delivery drivers, helping with firewood cutting events or behind the scenes at the food banks. Our volunteers that work on internal projects in the organization are just as integral as our frontline volunteers!

What should I expect as a volunteer?

As a volunteer, you can expect a great community of people working towards a positive mission. There are a lot of opportunities for personal growth and new friendships.

What do you look for in volunteers?

We look for volunteers that are kind, respectful, dedicated, reliable and open-minded. We want to create a positive working environment for both staff and volunteers.

What is the process for becoming a volunteer with CFN?

To become a volunteer, please register through CFN's BetterImpact Portal. If you are unable, or have challenges with completing this form, please reach out to Tina at 705-306-0565 or email [email protected].

What if I can no longer volunteer?

If you can no longer volunteer with CFN, just let us know! There is absolutely no problem with leaving our organization altogether or taking a break.  We appreciate any and all the work you do!

Who volunteers with CFN now?

Our current volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds. Some are still students. Some are still in the workforce. Some are retired. Some are off on other cool life adventures. So, there is not specific type of person that defines our volunteer crew.

Is there any specific equipment or materials that I should have as a volunteer?

There is not a set equipment list that you really need as a volunteer. However, given Covid-19, if you are volunteering in-person, we ask that you come in with a proper mask that covers your nose and mouth. We do have a supply available if you need them, as well.

If you are wanting to be part of a committee or run for a board position, we highly recommend that you have strong and reliable private internet connection along with a computer or laptop with a microphone and webcam.
